Prof. Dr. Tunca Doğan
Prof. Dr. Tunca Doğan is a faculty member in the Department of Computer Engineering and the Department of Artificial Intelligence Engineering at Hacettepe University, and head of the Hacettepe Biological Data Science Lab. He previously worked as a postdoctoral researcher on the UniProt protein database team at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) and the University of Cambridge in the UK, on computational protein science. He holds BSc and MSc degrees in engineering and a PhD in bioinformatics. Dr. Doğan and his team develop machine learning and deep learning based predictive methods for (i) integrating and representing heterogeneous biomedical data, (ii) predicting the functional properties of proteins, and (iii) discovering and designing novel small-molecule drug candidates. His team has recently been working on representation learning and generative AI, with several ongoing projects on these topics. Dr. Doğan is the recipient of the Science Academy Young Scientist Award, awards from several other science foundations, and the IBG Science Medal.
